Silk, chiné (warp-printed), trimmed with silk blonde lace.
The Empress Eugénie Collection
Often dresses had two bodices to match a skirt. The jacket style for daywear has pagoda sleeves, whereas for evening, the short, pointed bodice has short sleeves and a lower décolletage. Behind the ribbons across the front, there would have been lace or tulle. The softly patterned chiné silk was highly desirable in the 1850s.
