Pauline Bonaparte, Napoleon’s youngest sister, married Victor Emmanuel Leclerc, the son of a rich miller. Napoleon promoted him to Brigadier General but the marriage was short lived as Leclerc died of yellow fever whilst in San Domingo (Haiti). Within a year Pauline made a promising match with Prince Camillo Borghese, one of the richest aristocrats in Italy.
