Cotton sateen, printed with a design of cupids and pink roses
This one-piece cotton dress was suitable for morning or seaside wear. The front panel is ruched and the drapery swathes around to the back to the bustle. The ‘cherub’ print maybe part of a revival of 18th century style dresses in ‘figured chintz’, which became popular in the 1870s for looped up ‘polonaise’ styles, which resembled an eighteenth century form of dress.
