This painting was almost certainly exhibited in the Salon of 1866 as Le Café de la grand'maman.
It has been suggested that the unidentified items protruding from the figure’s temples may be sebaceous horns, a completely benign desiccated secretion from the skin, but it is perhaps more likely that they are leather hair wraps.
